The central idea
In the Bicycle reference, melds group matching ranks rather than runs. Twos and jokers act as wild cards. An ordinary meld needs at least two natural cards and allows no more than three wild cards.
Practise describing a group
Use the meld examples to name the natural cards and the substitutes separately. Say the rank first, then count each type. This slower explanation is more useful in a first practice than simply saying that a group looks right.
Keep the scope visible
An example of a group does not establish that you may lay it down at this moment. Opening requirements, the origin of a card and going-out conditions remain separate questions. Look them up in the complete reference rather than treating a diagram as permission to play.
